Day 61 of 365 – DGAF

Saturday’s 365 if from NextHype’s DGAF at the Colosseum. I am pretty sure any time I take photos there a shot of the night will end up in this 365 project. There are just too many awesome vibes, colors, people, and music to not put it in the project. I spend a decent amount of time trying to get long exposure shots of people with LED gloves or any other light up objects as the light trails make for some really interesting photos, this guy had these fiber optic style wands that actually made some pretty cool light trails, so here it is.

I took a large DGAF “Family” photo but it was well after midnight when I took that so I couldn’t use it for Saturday’s 365.

Day 60 of 365 – Store Front

This is a photo of an interesting building on Waybosset street in Providence. I am not sure what it used to be, but right now it’s just the front of the building being held up by huge support beams. I did 4 long exposures then stitched them together to produce this super wide shot that shows the whole building. I probably could have found a better vantage point and maybe found an angle to hide that light shining through the window, but this is the best I could do with the 15 minutes I had to take the shot.

Day 59 of 365 – Firework Bokeh

This was my attempt at capturing Fireworks in a different way. This is done is with a long 2-3 second exposure, manual focus, then quickly adjusting the camera out of focus right at the last 1/4 second or so to show nice bokeh at the tips of the fire works. Next time I will try this while I am closer to the fireworks or have the correct lens.

Day 57 of 365 – Unexpected Rockets

Last night I wanted to hang out outside with friends, not in a shady dark club. I had some friends I met through DGAF that invited me over to their place for some fireworks and fun, so I made the trek up to Worcester and boy am I glad I did. By the time I made it there, the huge fireworks display they had was over, however they gathered together their bottle rockets and shot them in to the sky for me all at the same time for me to get a 365 photo.

Problem is, I was not ready. The camera was not on the tripod and the firery balls started flying in to the air before I had my focus and settings correct. I tried to take the photo hand held and this is the best I could do. I am semi-ok with posting a shitty photo for this day, because the memory of the night is much more important to me. Thanks Kurt and Shane!

Day 55 of 365 – Drop The Lime

With 1 hour left in the day, I still had not taken my 365. I frantically ran around the house looking for ideas, asked friends on FaceBook what to do, a friend mentioned Macro photography, then I remembered about a project I have been wanting to do that is not macro. Basically, you take a fish tank, fill it up with water, then throw things in it and take photos of the moment of impact.

One problem -I have no fish tank. I found a vase with a flat side and decided to give it try with that. The vase was really small so I had to zoom way in and do this as a macro. This presented a multitude of issues so I just went with it and kept on taking photos until my memory card was full. Between each drop, I had to whipe down the glass from the splash back, which sucked. The results are not great, but this was fun to work with and I can not wait to do this with a fish tank or something even bigger with bigger subjects.

Day 54 of 365 – Peerless Rooftop

I was fortunate enough to be invited to a wonderful roof-top party in downtown Providence  on Saturday by my friends Nick and Rachel. It was a great evening for such an event and the sunset was just amazing up there. I was snapping quite a few shots, a few Pano’s, I tried a bit of everything since I do not get the chance to shoot on a roof top very often. This photo ended up being my favorite of the bunch. It almost looks like the moon is being spit out of that chimney thing on the roof. I will be posting the other photos taken that day soon.

Day 49 of 365 – Color Blind

I found this abandoned looking entrance close to home in an alley way. This Mill is still being used, even though it looks like it hasn’t been inhabited in at least 20 years. This was taken around 9:45pm when it was already reasonably dark out, I did a long exposure to capture the available light. then did some color adjustments in photoshop to make it look like it was taken during the day. After all is said and done, I am pretty sure that garage door is white and not black.

Day 48 of 365 – Surprise Proposal

A friend asked me to take some “secret” photos of him proposing to his girlfriend right before they boarded a gondola in Downtown Providence today. It was a perfect day for such an event, the weather was pristine. This was a tough shoot, I had to not be noticed until after the actual proposal. After they started off on the boat, I ran to each over pass to get some shots of them floating away on the water. I wanted to maintain their privacy so the only photo I am posting here is with their backs to the camera.

Day 47 of 365 – Crescent Moon

We had all kinds of crazy ass weather on Saturday. From thunderstorms and rain to blue skies and heat. Later on in the evening I noticed how crazy the sky and the moon looked so I decided to try and capture it. I made a few images but the first one that was unplanned was my favorite. This was taken on progress street pointing towards the new school – I am not sure which one it is.

Day 46 of 365 – Star Trails v1

This is my first attempt at capturing star trails.  This is a 22 minute exposure of the sky. I believed this effect is caused by the earth rotating but the stars not moving. This can only be done with very minimal light pollution so my buddy Dennis and myself drove out to the Arcadia Management area in Exeter, RI since it is one of the darkest places in the area.

This was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be, considering I drove to the middle of no where and realized I left my remote trigger at home so I had to duck tape my shutter switch down  AND I lost my batter charger for my camera batteries so I only had a few shots at doing this before I ran out of battery juice. Next time I will be well prepared and find an even darker place with a more interesting foreground.

Day 43 of 365 – Cassela

The Film from the Future guys asked me to give them a hand with making paint dance for a music video they are working on for the band Cassela. They saw my “I can’t stop” 365 photo and wanted to colaborate on this awesome project together. I shot photos along side their video but all my photos came out like shit. I couldn’t get my focus on point and since they where shooting video, the lighting was not what I was used to using (strobes). At some point Josh suggested we put a canvas under the speaker because the splash back was looking like a piece of art. Here is a photo of one of the finished canvases made from paint flying off a speaker to the music by the band Cassela.

Day 42 of 365 – Thread

This is another one of those “something is better than nothing” days. I spent most of my day editing photos from the past weekend and a recent gig so I did not have much time to dedicate to my 365. Close friends of mine know my mother and that she is an amazing seamstress. The house is full of random sewing supplies, so when I looked around the basement and saw this stack of thread I decided I would try to make it work. It almost looks like a multicolored city skyline made of thread.
